The Hunger Games
I love the Hunger Games book and movie series. In December of 2024 and January of 2025 my husband and I visited Georgia with our son and his wife. I was excited to visit some of the Hunger Games filming sites in the area. These included:
* The Swan House in Atlanta, Georgia
* Sweetwater Creek State Park
* The Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia
Catching Fire was also shot on in Hawaii on Oahu.
* Turtle Bay Beach
* Waimea Valley
* Kahana Bay Beach Park
* Halona Blow Hole and Cove area
* Kualoa Ranch

The Swan House
The Swan House was used in the filming of the Hunger Games movie series. It was President Snow's mansion. It is located at 130 West Paces Ferry Rd in Atlanta. Its google maps location is here:

Sweetwater Creek State Park
Portions of the Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay Part 1 were filmed in Sweetwater Creek State Park. Sweetwater Creek State Park is located at 1750 Mt. Vernon Rd in Lithia Springs, Georgia. Its google maps location is here:
Sweetwater Creek State Park
It is open every day from 7 a.m. until dark. A website with more information is here:
Sweetwater CreekThere are a variety of hiking trails that you can take within the park. Take either the green, white, or red trails to reach the Mill Ruins where Gale and Katniss talk under the archway while on a hunt. One of the park rangers told us that if we take the white trail to where it intersects with brown that is where more of the hunting scenes were filmed with Katniss and Gale. We followed the brown trail from the river back up to where it joins the white trail, and then back to the parking lot. Some of the area that Katniss and Gale hunted during Mockingjay Part 1 is across the creek from the mill, and there isn't a trail system that leads to that so it isn't accessible without crossing the creek. Here's a video of our time at Sweetwater Creek and Marriott Marquis:

Hawaii Filming Sites
The arena from Catching fire was filmed in Hawaii. I visited Kualoa Ranch in April of 2026 and saw major filming sites for several movies, including Jurassic Park & Jurassic World. On their list of movies, they do not list Catching Fire. However, online I found references to some of the filming for Catching Fire taking place on Kualoa Ranch, and at one point I'm pretty sure I recognized the ranch in the movie. I could be wrong, but our tour guide on our Jurassic Adventures Tour at Kualoa Ranch told us that some movies do not want to be identified as having filmed at Kualoa, and I wondered if Catching Fire might have been one of them. 50% of the time when I googled whether Kualoa Ranch was used in filming Catching Fire, it said that it was a filming site, and 50% of the time it said that it wasn't. It is a mystery, but either way, Kualoa Ranch is well worth visiting and you will get to see lots of other movie sites on your tours there. Here is a video about the making of Catching Fire in Hawaii:

Halona Blow Hole & Sandy Beach
I also found references online to Halona Blow Hole and Cove area being used for filming some of Catching Fire. The terrain there does appear to be like the movie, although the Blow Hole itself is definitely not in the movie. From my research on the internet it sounds like they may have shot at Halona Cove but didn't use a large amount of the footage in the actual film. This is another mystery because I find conflicting information online about whether Halona Cove was used or not. Either way, Halona Blow Hole is a fascinating place to visit on Oahu, as is Koko Crater arch across the street. The black lava rock at Halona Blow Hole greatly resembles the spikes of the cornucopia which were constructed for the movie. At one point during the arena scenes, it did appear to me that they were sitting on the actual black lava rock at Halona, but I can't be sure.
Across the street from the Koko Crater arch trailhead and just a little bit north along the highway is the Halona Blow Hole parking area. The blow hole is fenced off so that you can't walk all the way to it, but there is a lot of evidence that people go down there quite often. That would be dangerous, though, as you could get swept out to sea quite easily, especially on a day like the one we visited. We also went to enjoy the beach next door. We could see the Halona Blow Hole from where we parked for Koko Crater Arch trailhead, from the Halona Blow Hole parking area, and from Sandy Beach. A video of our visit to the Halona Blow Hole and Sandy Beach is here:
Halona Blowhole & Sandy Beach The google maps location for the Halona Blow Hole is here:
Halona Blow Hole The blow hole was formed thousands of years ago during volcanic eruptions. The hot lava formed lava tubes in the water, and when waves come in, water rushes up the blow hole into the sky. It was fun to watch the water shooting high into the air while we were there.
