Indiana Jones & the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark was filmed in California, France, England, Tunisia, and Hawaii.  The opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark was shot at Kalalea Mountain in Kauai, Hawaii.  You can see the scene here:  Raiders of the Lost Ark opening scene  Scenes were also filmed at Kipu Falls, which you can only visit by purchasing a tour from Kipu Ranch Adventures.

Kalalea Mountain is the pointed peak resembling a gorilla's head.

Kalalea Mountain is located here:  Kalalea Mountain

Kalalea Mountain is sometimes called Gorilla Head mountain because it looks like the side profile of a gorilla.  Many other movies feature this mountain.  At the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Paramount mountain fades into this mountain.  Additionally, the waterfall shown near the beginning of the movie is also in Kauai, but is on private property, so requires purchasing a tour to visit.  It is called Kipu Falls and you can visit it through a tour from Kipu Ranch Adventures.  Their official website is here:  Kipu Ranch Adventures  The waterfall tour costs $190.  You can see the falls at the end of this movie clip:  Kipu Falls in Raiders of the Lost Ark  and this scene covers a little bit more of the waterfall:  Raiders of the Lost Ark jungle chase

Kalalea Mountain can be seen from many places on the island and is very recognizable.
