Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban (3)

Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (3)

The Borough Market in London

The entrance to "The Leaky Cauldron" was filmed at the Borough Market in London, specifically at 7A Stoney Street, which is under a railway bridge.  It is now a restaurant called "Tacos El Pastor," and their website is here:  Tacos El Pastor

Next door at 8 Stoney Street was the "Third Hand Book Emporium" in the movie.  This location is a restaurant called "Arthur Hooper's" and their website is here:  Arthur Hooper's

This scene begins when the Knight Bus drops Harry Potter off at the Leaky Cauldron.  The entrance to the Leaky Cauldron is the Tacos El Pastor.  You can see the Third Hand Book Emporium as Harry exits the bus and heads into the Leaky Cauldron.  A few minutes later in the film when Harry looks out the window at the train driving by, you see the glass roof of the Borough Market, which is very distinctive.

Inside the Borough Market

We were there in November and the Borough Market was all decorated for Christmas

They have very excellent macaroni & cheese at the Borough Market, as well as lots of other choices for eating

The market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.  It is closed on Monday.

Harry Potter Studios in London

Warner Brothers Studio Tour London is located at Studio Tour Dr, Leavesden, Watford WD25 7LR, United Kingdom.  If you are a Harry Potter fan, it is a definite must-visit if you are ever in London.  The tickets are rather expensive, and you have to book them far in advance, but it is worth it.  Tickets are 56 pounds for adults, and they also offer family tickets, and tickets with added benefits.  I recommend purchasing priority parking so that you have parking right next to the entrance.  The Studio is open from 9:30 a.m. to 10 o'clock at night.

Several aspects of this movie can be found during a tour of Harry Potters Studios in London.  The Monster Book of Monsters is one of those.

The book does move around and growl in the Studio like it does in the movie

Buckbeak the hippogriff that Harry and Hermione rescue in this movie is in the studio.

Gringotts Wizarding Bank is another aspect of the Studio tour.  Harry and Hermione visited Gringotts to access Harry's vault after learning that Sirius Black was trying to access it.

The Studio has a Platform 9 3/4 that you can pose next to for photos

The Dursley Home on Privet Drive is standing outside the studio

Aunt Marge inflated like a balloon and floated away

The Knight Bus is on display outside the Studio

The sleeper car used in the film

The Dining Hall is featured in every Harry Potter movie.  It was actually fashioned after the dining hall at Christ Church, Oxford.  No filming was done in the Christ Church dining hall, however.  The set was created to mimic this high-ceilinged dining hall and filming for all of the movies was done at the Studio.

The entrance to the dining hall

Diagon Alley, and specifically the Leaky Cauldron, is where Harry Potter stays in August before school starts.  He does some back to school shopping at Diagon Alley.

Scribbulus is a shop where wizards and witches can purchase writing supplies of all sorts

Mr Mullpeppers Apothecary is where wizards and witches can purchase items for potion making.

Slug & Jiggers is also an Apothecary selling potion ingredients

Eeylops Owl Emporium where wizards and witches can purchase owls

Weasley's Wizard Wheezes is the shop founded by Fred and George that features jokes and novelty items

The stairway to nowhere

The Hogwarts Bridge, the wooden bridge appearing in this and several of the other movies

The Hogwarts Castle was built as a miniature and was used in scenes for each movie with the weather changing on the set.  When we visited, it was snowing at the castle.  There are other models built of the Hogwarts set that were used in filming also.

The Hogwarts Express is part of each Harry Potter movie as well.  The train sits on display in the studio and people can walk through it and look in each train car.

At the photo studio you can have your photo taken with the knight bus.
