Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade

Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade

I love Moab, Utah more than any place on earth, so I have always loved this particular Indiana Jones movie the best of all of them.  You can see a lot of this landscape from your own car as you drive through Arches National Park on the main road.  You can walk the mile-long Park Avenue trail to see Nefertiti and the other views that appear at the very beginning of the movie.  You can view from your car, or walk to Balanced Rock, which is right next to the main road.

Double Arch is in the Windows Section of Arches National Park, and isn't even a hike - park and walk a few yards and you're standing under this amazing double arch.  Just like the boy scouts in the movie, my kids have climbed all over under and next to Double Arch, including into those caves that Indiana went in, just to the right of Double Arch -- although they are just shallow caves and definitely not the archeological site like the movie makes it appear.

I also love Venice, Italy more than any other place in Italy.  This movie has 2 of my very favorite locations featured in it.

* Park Avenue in Arches National Park, Moab, Utah
* The Organ and other formations on the main road through Arches National Park
* Balanced Rock in Arches National Park
* Double Arch in Arches National Park, Moab, Utah
* St. Mark's Campanile & Doge's Palace on St. Mark's Square in Venice, Italy
* Academia Bridge in Venice, Italy
* Basilica Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, Italy
* Grand Canal in Venice, Italy

The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy

Some portions of the chase scene with Indiana Jones were actually filmed in England, but the portions where the Grand Canal were used are obviously the real thing, such as when the Academia Bridge comes into view for a moment, as well as the Basilica Santa Maria della Salute, the St. Mark's Campanile and Doge's Palace on St. Mark's Square.

Arches National Park in Moab, Utah

If you have never been to Arches National Park, you have got to make your way to Moab, Utah!  There is nothing like it on earth!  And if you drive through the park on the main road, you'll see most of what you need to see from this movie.  Or head to the Windows section and park, and walk to stand underneath Double Arch.

This photo was taken in 2007 of my boys under the double arch

As you drive through Arches National Park you can see the Organ, the 3 Gossips, Balance Rock, and every other landmark that is shown in the beginning scenes of the movie.  To see Nefertiti you can take the very short Park Avenue hike near the entrance to the park.
